Next Tony Hawk Releasing Exclusively On Mobile

by Isaac Federspiel on Feb 27, 2014 at 08:02 AM

The recently announced Tony Hawk game we reported on last week is releasing exclusively on mobile platforms, according to an interview with Bloomberg. The exclusivity on mobile is possibly due to the popularity gaming on tablets and smart phones.

"We've never gone exclusively in that direction yet so I'm excited,” says Tony Hawk in an interview with Bloomberg. “Because, with the amount of time people are spending on their phones and their tablets playing games, we've never had our own game in that space so I'm excited to provide one finally."

Very little is known about the upcoming title, which we first heard about when Hawk said he was working on a game while on his Sirius XM radio show. In an interview last year, Hawk said that mobile was a likely destination for the next release.

This will be the second Tony Hawk game to appear on mobile, but the upcoming release will be the first time the series releases exclusively on mobile devices. The last Tony Hawk game was an HD remake of the first two games in the franchise, and released for XBLA and the PSN store.

Our Take
A new Tony Hawk game, regardless of platform, is interesting. Hardcore fans of the original, extremely popular console games may be disappointed, but a mobile release will likely provide a lower barrier to entry as far as costs goes.
