Call Of Duty Elite Ends This Month
Activision's online service Call of Duty Elite was unveiled in 2011 as a paid companion service for the franchise. It later became free with the release of Black Ops II, and now it's going away entirely.
Activision says Elite will no longer be up and running as of Friday, February 28, 2014 at approximately noon central time.
Created content and stats from Modern Warfare 3 and Black Ops II will still be stored in-game or on YouTube. Clan management tools are being shifted to the free app for Call of Duty: Ghosts, which is related to why Elite is shutting down in the first place – its features have been integrated elsewhere.
Elite founding members get to hold onto their special emblem. Plus, users who have logged into Elite since the start of the year will get two hours of double XP in Ghosts "soon."

Activision presumably could have kept charging people for Elite's features, but it's good to see that over the years they've integrated them for free into the franchise to keep up with the competition.
