Seth Rogen Making Film About The '90s Console War

by Ben Reeves on Feb 24, 2014 at 05:11 AM

Actor Seth Rogen (Pineapple Express, Knocked Up) and writer/director Evan Goldberg (This Is The End) have signed on to make a movie detailing the '90s console war between Sega and Nintendo.

Sony optioned the movie rights to a book by Blake Harris called Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo And The Battle That Defined A Generation, which details the battle Sega and Nintendo had during the early '90s and how it set the stage for the modern gaming industry.

The book, which is being written in the vein of The Accidental Billionaires and Moneyball, won't actually be out until May, but Rogen and Goldberg have already signed on to write the script and direct the film.

Harris himself will be an Executive Producer, and will also be co-directing a documentary based on the console war.

Our Take
I love the idea of a film based on the '90s console war. I'd enjoyed the films based on Harris' previous books. Rogen and Goldberg seem like an odd choice for the writer and director roles of a film like this, but since the pairs previous work has included entertaining films like Superbad, Pineapple Express, and This Is The End, I'm willing to wait and see how this turns out.
