Reader Discussion: Would You Like Kid-Friendly Versions Of Games?

by Ben Reeves on Feb 24, 2014 at 12:39 PM

Some of the most popular games in the industry are rated M, but games don't have to be mature to be fun. Are there any popular game franchises that you'd like to see get a kid-friendly makeover?

Tomorrow, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare releases. As the name would imply, it is a military-themed shooter in the vein of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that has been given a playful Plants vs. Zombies skin. The game looks fun, which got me thinking that maybe there are other game types and game franchises out there that would work even if they weren't rated M.

Last year, Nintendo published Lego City Undercover, a hilarious take on GTA's open world style of play. Decades ago, Capcom released a chibi version of Castlevania called Kid Dracula. All of these games are fun for gamers of all ages. Personally, I'd love to see a fun action game like Devil May Cry that featured a sophisticated control scheme, but was cute enough to play with my nephew.

What about you? Can you think of games games types or franchises that you'd like to see reskinned in some playful, kid-friendly way?
