Journey Composer Did It All On A Keyboard From His Childhood
Last year, composer Austin Wintory’s soundtrack for Journey became the first full video game soundtrack to ever be nominated for a Grammy. It might also surprise you that instead of using a piece of high-end hardware, he composed the entire score on a $50 Casio 44-Key keyboard that he’s had since childhood.
“I did almost everything in my whole career on that because I had it since I was a kid. It had special significance to me,” Wintory says about composing on a keyboard many would consider to little more than a toy.

Journey's soundtrack was more than worthy of a Grammy nomination, and it is inspiring to learn that the composer did it all with less than optimal equipment that held special significance for him.
