Ancient Chinese Instrument Plays The Super Mario Theme Beautifully

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 23, 2014 at 12:02 PM

Despite being created thousands of years before Super Mario composer Koji Kondo even knew what a video game was, this instrument seems perfectly suited for the Mario soundtrack.

The instrument you see in the video, which looks more like a dark tower of despair than an instrument capable of creating joyful music, is called the sheng. It is an ancient Chinese instrument, and this musician's mastery of it is impressive. She is even able to simulate coin collection sounds.
