Update: Microsoft Not Letting Gamers Pre-Load Titanfall After All

Despite previous information to the contrary, Microsoft has provided a statement denying users' ability to pre-purchase and pre-load Titanfall.

The statement reads: "We believe in digital distribution, and are proud to give gamers a variety of ways to purchase and experience their games. However, pre-purchase and pre-download for Titanfall for Xbox One will not be available from Xbox Store. We’ll continue to strike a balance between digital distribution and its benefits, while supporting physical games purchase through our retail partners."

In addition, Microsoft has deactivated the page (in the original story below) that indicated players would be able to pre-purchase and pre-load Titanfall in advance of its release.

Original Story:

After the successful Titanfall beta, gamers are more eager than ever to get their hands on the final version of the game. Thanks to a new program from Microsoft, you can ensure you're playing Titanfall as soon as possible.

As shown on Titanfall's page on Xbox.com, you can pre-purchase Titanfall right now on Xbox One. You'll be charged full price for the product right away, but you'll be able to download the game prior to its March 11 release date.

Of course, you won't actually be able to play it early, but with the purchase complete and the game downloaded, you should be ready to hop online and start the action right at 12:01 AM on the 11th.

Does this mean that more games in the future might follow in the footsteps of Titanfall? We've reached out to Microsoft for comment on how/if this strategy will be implemented moving forward.

Our Take
This can only be a good thing for EA, Respawn, and Microsoft. Titanfall is already a highly anticipated title, and ensuring that fans can jump in and start playing right away is bound to drum up some extra excitement around the game. Hopefully, it also decreases the number of people trying to download the game at once on launch day.
