Kingdom Come: Deliverance Kickstarter Ends Raising Triple Its Goal

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 21, 2014 at 03:51 AM

The Kickstarter for developer Warhorse's open-world Medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, has come to a close with some impressive support behind it.

From the beginning, Kingdom Come: Deliverance's Kickstarter was not meant to completely fund the game. Instead, the Kickstarter was launched as a means to raise additional funds, and prove to investors the viability of the concept. The studio already had seed money in the amount of $1.5 million from investors outside the video game industry. The Kickstarter asked for £300,000 (approximately $500,000), hit that goal three days after launch, and closed its Kickstarter yesterday raising £1,106,371 (approximately $1,800,000). The game now appears very high on Kickstarter's list of highest-funded projects. Its success shows that players really want to explore a realistic, open-world medieval RPG.

The game, if you're unfamiliar, comes from a studio formed by Mafia director and design lead Dan Vávra. It focuses on authentic medieval combat, and looks impressive even at this early stage. You can check out a trailer for the game below. Shortly after being funded, the game also met its goal to appear on new-gen consoles.

Our Take
Kingdom Come: Deliverance impressed right out of the gate. Having footage of the game take the main stage in its Kickstarter pitch video certainly helped. I'm curious to see how it all comes together. Now that the money has been raised, it's time to deliver on the promises.
