Respawn And Microsoft Are Refining The Xbox One Controller

Whether you’re planning on getting the limited edition Titanfall controller or will be using one you already have, your experience is about to get an upgrade. Respawn and Microsoft have been working together to improve controller responsiveness.

When we were previewing Titanfall recently, we heard a bit about how things are improving. “The analog sticks are more precise, and we worked very closely with [Microsoft],” a Respawn representative told us. The Titanfall controllers will already come with the software-based enhancements, but the improvements will be pushed out to all of the controllers.

Respawn also indicated that the team has been working with Microsoft on the visual side of things. “The hardware upscaler is getting better,” we were told. Upscalers are used to improve lower resolutions.

Titanfall is due on March 11 for Xbox One and PC. The Xbox 360 version will be along on March 25.

Our Take
Microsoft is already planning a software patch for the controllers that will be necessary to take advantage of the new stereo headset and chat adapter. It would be wise to package the performance enhancements in to minimize inconvenience. I’m interested to see how the controller is improved and whether the inconvenience of having to upgrade each controller is offset by the benefits of being able to.
