Twitch Touts A Million Monthly Broadcasters

by Matthew Kato on Feb 10, 2014 at 04:55 AM

Live game broadcasting is showing no signs of slowing down, and platform Twitch is boasting some big numbers.

The company says that is has reached the milestones of over a million monthly active broadcasters and an average of 13 million minutes watched per month.

Currently, Twitch broadcasting is seeing success on the PlayStation 4, with its debut on Xbox One still a little ways off.

Twitch is the video-game specific channel of the Justin.tv website/broadcaster (featuring channels of other content), but Twitch has become such a big deal that from now on Twitch is replacing Justin.tv as the company's overall corporate name.

"As Twitch has continued to grow as the leader of the video game streaming space, it has eclipsed our previous initiatives," said Emmett Shear, Twitch CEO and founder. "Given our total focus on serving the gaming community, it makes sense to reposition it as our primary brand. Seven years ago, Justin.tv pioneered live video on the Web, and while I remain proud of all the work we did under that name, I'm even more excited about our new future as Twitch."

For more on Twitch, take a look at our recent interview with Matthew DiPietro, VP of marketing.

Our Take:
Given the pack-in Kinect camera, the numbers should only skyrocket once Twitch gets onto Xbox One.
