Witcher Leads Depart For 11 Bit Studios

by Matt Helgeson on Feb 06, 2014 at 02:50 PM

Two of the main developers behind CD Projekt Red's Witcher franchise have departed for successful indie studio 11 Bit.

Witcher lead gameplay designer Maciej Szcześnik and gameplay producer Marek Ziemak announced today that they have taken new positions at 11 Bit Studios after long tenures at CD Projekt Red.

"I'm absolutely looking forward to working here," said Maciej Szcześnik, who will be the lead designer of a new game in development at 11 Bit. "I'll be responsible for the entire design of a game that took shape in my imagination. It's a really exciting feeling to create a new world from scratch, make its characters and rules and to know that I have this blank page to fill with my ideas and then bring them to life."

11 Bit has had success in the mobile space, particularly the Anomaly series, which has put an innovative spin on the tower defense genre.

Our Take:
It's interesting to see two men who's spent years working in the triple-A console space depart for a company more known for smaller-scale mobile titles. This could either represent that they are ready for a change of pace, or indicate that 11 Bit Studios has its sights set on more ambitious projects.
