Rumor: King Of Kong Director May Helm Uncharted Film

by Kyle Hilliard on Feb 04, 2014 at 02:51 PM

Seth Gordon, the director behind the comedy Horrible Bosses and the documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, is apparently in negotiations to direct the film adaptation of Uncharted.

Deadline is reporting the rumor saying that Gordon is currently in negotiations to direct the film based on the Naughty Dog franchise with a script written by David Guggenheim. Guggenheim wrote the film Safe House, which was directed by Daniel Espinosa. Espinosa is similarly in negotiations to direct the Assassin's Creed movie.

Gordon is the third director who has been attached to the project. David O. Russel, director of the the recent American Hustle, was attached at one time with a story about a family of treasure hunters. Another time, Neil Burger, director of Limitless, was also attached to direct the film, but backed out.

Thanks to Andrew Kershner for the news tip!

Our Take
Gordon doesn't have much action directing experience, but he does have experience with video games and directing comedy, which seems like it could be a good fit for a movie based on a video game about a smart-mouthed treasure hunter. I still would love to see the David O. Russel Uncharted film just because I am a fan of his work, but it seems like that ship has long since sailed.
