The lights are on
Following reports last week that a decision was close, Microsoft has announced the name of its new CEO. Satya Nadella will immediately take over as Microsoft’s third CEO, replacing Steve Ballmer. Ballmer announced plans to retire in August.
Before starting at Microsoft in 1992, Nadella worked for Sun Microsystems. His most recent position before being tapped to Microsoft was executive vice presiding of the Cloud and Enterprise group.
In his email to staff this morning, Nadella introduced himself and set forward the outline of a mission for the company under his leadership. “While we have seen great success, we are hungry to do more,” he writes. “Our industry does not respect tradition — it only respects innovation.”
The move also heralds a change for company founder Bill Gates. Gates will vacate the role of chairman of the board. He will step into a new position on the board as founder and technology advisor. John Thompson will assume the role of chairman and remain one of the seven independent board members. Nadella’s role as CEO will elevate him to the ten-person board.

Our TakeNadella’s appointment to the role of CEO begins to establish a pattern of promotion from within. The transition of Bill Gates from chairman to technology adviser will be interesting to watch, as he players a more significant role for Nadella than he did for Ballmer.
Can't wait to see if they can head in a new direction and correct some of the poorer communication they have had in the past few years. Always have high hopes for Microsoft. (Coming from a PS4 owner btw)
Congrats to Nadella. I Microsoft made a good choice for their new CEO. I wish him all the best!
Taps! *snicker*
Hopefully he'll bring The 90s MS.
Good stuff! I think it was a wise decision!
At least they opted to go with the guy that is more likely to keep the Xbox division around. That is good news for all of the Xbox fans and gamers out there, including myself (although so far I have choosen to stay away from the XboxOne), hopefully he can right the ship.
I think he's a good choice for the company. Ultimately, only time will tell but I've liked what I've read about him so far.
never heard of him, but something tells me he won't be half as entertaining as Balmer ever was... as his first order of business, he needs to make Windows 8 relevant.
"Developers Developers Developers!!!! ARGGHHHHHH!!!!" - Balmer
No no no no, need new faces that want to get in there and destroy competition, not play patty cake
YAY, it's not the guy who wanted to shut down the xbox brand.
Good to know the xbox brand is safe. My family is a Microsoft family. Many would say bad things but I own there phones, tables, computers and of course there gaming console. Never had any problems and when something did mess up the customer Servie was great. As long as they keep everything the same and progressing. Forward I'm happy
excellent choice, a veteran that knows the inner workings can be a promising choice for the future of microsoft... on another note i will miss Mr. Ballmer, he has lead the company to a great many heights.
You just never know how things will pan out. Hopefully he's in tune with what we want as gamers as far as that goes.
