Report: Marvel And Star Wars Coming To Disney Infinity, Layoffs This Week

by Mike Futter on Feb 03, 2014 at 10:27 AM

Disney is reportedly working to bring more of its properties into the Infinity family. With Disney in control of the Marvel and Star Wars universes, many Infinity fans have been hopeful for playsets and characters from those worlds. It seems those are, in fact, happening.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the two sets are currently in development, though more details about how they will be implemented were not revealed. Disney Infinity has sold three million starter sets as of mid-January.

The focus of the Wall Street Journal report is impending layoffs at Disney Interactive that could number "several hundred." The company employes approximately 3,000. That segment of the company has been the target of a number of layoffs in recent years. According to the report, layoffs could begin as soon as the quarterly results are released on Wednesday, February 5.

Disney Infinity helped propel the interactive unit to a profitable quarter ending September 30. That was only the second one in its five-year history. We've reached out to Disney for comment on both parts of this story.

Update: Disney has declined to comment on either part of this report.
