DS Virtual Console Heading To Wii U

by Kyle Hilliard on Jan 29, 2014 at 02:56 PM

Nintendo made a number of announcements tonight as part of its investor conference, one of which is the promise to bring DS games to the Wii U.

Nintendo didn't offer many details regarding the new DS Virtual Console, outside of a short description on its third quarter briefing results, which is in Japanese. Nintendo said it was able to overcome technical hurdles previously preventing DS emulation. An image showcases Brain Age being played on the Wii GamePad with both the DS' top and bottom screens appearing on the GamePad.

Nintendo also said it has plans to expand its NFC technology (the technology that allows you to place toys and figures on your GamePad to unlock in-game content), and speed up the start-up time of the Wii U GamePad for faster off-screen play in general.

Our Take
This is very exciting, and something I have been hoping for since the announcement of the Wii U console. Hopefully Nintendo releases games on it faster than it has its other Wii U Virtual Console.
