by Kyle Hilliard on Jan 26, 2014 at 06:57 AM

Spike Chunsoft, the developers behind 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and its sequel Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward recently published an interactive novel called Banshee's Last Cry on iOS devices.

It's not quite a game, but it does have interactive elements with the ability to choose the direction of the story leading to 30 different endings. You can read the story's plot description below.

Banshee’s Last Cry is a thrilling visual novel that takes readers on a deadly thrill ride of murder and deception. Set in a snowed in hotel lodge during Christmas, vacationers find themselves caught up in a murderous “whodunit” game when someone winds up dead. Local legend tells of a banshee whose screams can rip through flesh, but, is the killer really a deadly monster or the work of a madman?

You can head here grab it for $3.99 for either iPhone or iPad.

Our Take
The strength of Spike Chunsoft's Zero Escape games are their narratives. Banshee's Last Cry seems like a good way for the studio's writers to stretch their storytelling legs without having to create a video game shell with animated characters and puzzles for the story to exist inside of.
