Reader Discussion: What (If Anything) Motivates You To Purchase A Late PC Port

by Jeff Cork on Jan 21, 2014 at 01:46 PM

This morning, Capcom announced that it was bringing Resident Evil 4 to PC in what the company is calling the ultimate HD edition of the game. It’ll hit at the end of February, which will be about two-and-a-half years after the game’s HD remake was released on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PC owners, do you check out these ports years after they’ve been available on consoles for years, or have you already moved on?

In addition to Resident Evil 4’s remake, a few other PC ports stood out to me, but maybe not for the reasons publishers may have wanted. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow came out on consoles in October 2010, and was released on PC in August 2013. One that took me completely by surprise was Sega bringing Viking: Battle for Asgard to PC in October 2012, more than three-and-a-half years after the game was released on console.

On one hand, it’s great that these games are available to more players. Still, when it takes years for them to arrive, I can’t help but think PC gamers have moved on to other things. Am I right? Does an HD remake of Resident Evil 4 excite you now, or do you wish it had been released in tandem with the console versions?
