Thirteen Gigabyte Dead Rising 3 Update Leads First DLC Release

The first downloadable content for Dead Rising 3 will be released tomorrow, giving players a new character with a new story. Before that happens though, you might want to carve out time for a huge update to the game that will likely take you hours to download.

According to executive producer Josh Bridge, the patch weighs in at 13 GB and includes a number of fixes and compatibility elements that will ensure players with and without the DLC can still play together online. Some things that players should notice include improved item pickup when there are many cluttered together, repairs for some of the buggy blueprint and PP achievements, and new impulse trigger support. 

The four “Untold Stories of Los Perdidos” (of which tomorrow’s Operation Broken Eagle DLC is the first) will all tie into the main story.  There is no co-operative mode for the DLC, as the team chose to go exclusively single player for focus purposes. “We chose to do that so we could really drill down on a single-player experience and really tell that character’s story,” Bridge told Xbox Wire. “We see and know that everyone really loves co-op, which is why all of those weapons and vehicles and stuff you get in the episode can be brought into the main game for co-op as well.”

Our Take
Thirteen gigabytes is enormous, and for those with capped internet, this could be problematic. It’s great that Capcom is giving Dead Rising 3 so much post-release support, fixing some of the problems and improving on the experience. If this data point turns into a trend though, the new generation of gaming could be more costly than we originally thought in those territories facing bandwidth caps.
