Ashley Johnson Discusses Playing Ellie In New The Last Of Us DLC

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jan 13, 2014 at 09:29 AM

Not only did last year's The Last of Us handily win Game Informer's Game of the Year award, it told one of the best stories of last generation, thanks in no small part to the voice-acting talent of Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson. In a new interview, Johnson discusses what it was like voicing a younger, more playful Ellie in the upcoming Left Behind DLC.

The new single-player DLC is a prequel to The Last of Us, and focuses on Ellie and her friend Riley. In a new interview on PlayStation Blog, Johnson describes how the two have a very different relationship than Joel and Ellie, and how her character is different than the Ellie players got to know in the main game.

"You kind of get to meet the real her," Johnson says. "...You'll definitely see a more playful side to Ellie and get to know her a bit better. You're going to see a lot of different sides to the character that you definitely didn't see in The Last of Us. I'm excited for people to experience it!"

Johnson also describes how the tone is a little more playful, and that combat will have "some new touches and nuances." Head over to PlayStation Blog to read the full interview.

Our Take
Naughty Dog hasn't revealed many details about Left Behind, and while Johnson avoids spilling any major details, it's interesting to hear her perspective on Ellie and the DLC. Despite loving The Last of Us, I didn't feel much motivation to return to the world via DLC. After reading the interview, I'm intrigued to learn more.
