PlayStation 4 Enjoys Strong Software Sales And Twitch Traffic

by Matt Helgeson on Jan 07, 2014 at 12:00 PM

Sony's already announced that the PlayStation 4 has been selling strongly at retail, and this popularity seems to be carrying over on the software side as well.

The company revealed that there have been over 9.7 million PlayStation 4 games sold so far, a number that includes both retail sales and digital downloads from the PlayStation Store. Top-selling titles include Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and Battlefield 4.

Sony also boasted that PlayStation Plus Gold subscriptions have increased by 90 percent, which, frankly, isn't surprising given that multiplayer is now a for-pay service.

The PS4's share button and livestreaming functions continuing to be very popular with users, with PlayStation 4 accounting for more than 20 percent of total Twitch broadcasters. To date, there have been 1.7 million PS4 Twitch broadcasts for total of 55 million minutes of gameplay broadcast.

Our Take:
Once again, the numbers for Sony are pretty rosy. It's all the more impressive considering that the system has yet to release in Japan, a territory where Sony has traditionally dominated its closest competitor Microsoft.
