2K Sports Removes All Traces Of MLB Games From Its Website

by Mike Futter on Jan 06, 2014 at 11:44 AM

Baseball has been sorely underrepresented on video game consoles over the past generation. The best title (if you use critic scores as the yardstick) is MLB The Show, and that is only available on PlayStation platforms since Sony is the publisher. Now it looks like 2K is out of the game for good.

"We have decided not to renew our MLB 2K series for 2014,” a 2K representative told us. “We are very proud of the achievements made by the MLB 2K team and look forward to their contributions to our future titles, including NBA 2K - our industry’s #1 rated and #1 selling basketball franchise.”

2K has also removed the forums for the MLB titles, and the Facebook pages have been removed. At this point, the only announced MLB game for the new consoles is MLB The Show. Unless something changes, America’s pastime will miss the Xbox One in 2014.

Our Take
We were fairly cold on MLB 2K13 (executive editor Andrew Reiner awarded it a four out of ten). Still, it’s unfortunate when a series completely disappears, and more tragic when the past is eradicated.

For baseball fans hoping for a next-gen experience, there is only one choice right now. Here’s hoping that another publisher steps up in some way to bring something to fans on Xbox One.
