Nordic Games Planning New MX Vs. ATV Title

by Mike Futter on Dec 20, 2013 at 03:51 AM

Earlier this year, Nordic Games Publishing acquired a huge lot of properties from the now-defunct THQ. At Gamescom, we spoke with Reinhard Pollice, business and product development director at Nordic Games. During our conversation, he expressed interest in bringing back the MX vs. ATV series.

Today, Nordic has issued a press release stating that it has assembled a team to create MX vs. ATV Supercross. The development of the new title, due out in the first half of 2014, is led by Ken George, who was the executive producer of series titles created under THQ.

He has assembled a team of MX vs. ATV veterans to bring the series to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, and Linux. The title will have the scope of a downloadable game, but will bring back multiplayer, Motoclub Depot, and other features.

Our Take
Nordic doesn’t fancy itself a developer, which makes this move to assemble a team surprising. This is going to be a benchmark for what gamers can expect from the publisher moving forward. If MX vs. ATV is a success, and if the team gets the time, resources, and flexibility to deliver a great game, maybe there’s hope for other properties.

I don’t expect we’ll ever have a proper Darksiders 3. Maybe that will change if this first initiative hits the mark.
