WoW Wants You To Bring A Friend Over For The Holidays

by Jeff Cork on Dec 19, 2013 at 03:03 AM

Holiday breaks are fast approaching, and Blizzard wants you to make room for some World of Warcrafting. Going solo isn't any way to celebrate, so the company has restarted its Recruit a Friend promotion, where veterans get in-game bonuses for enlisting their buddies.

WoW players can send invites through the Recruit a Friend option in the friends list. If the friend signs on for a month of game time, the veteran gets a free month of game time in return. Two months will net the vet one of eight epic mounts or pets, including the Emerald Hippogryph.

Players will also get a few bonuses that are clearly aimed at keeping veterans and new players together. They include the ability to summon each other to the other's respective location; triple XP up to level 85, as long as the characters remain within four levels of one another; and the ability for new players to grant veteran characters a level for every two levels they earn. The new player has to be of a higher level than the veteran, so this is clearly meant for alts.

Our Take
World of Warcraft is such a well-known game that it's hard to imagine that many new players will be snagged into this deal. A buck is a buck, and if it inspires a few people to return to Azeroth, then it's done its job. Maybe people can use it as a refresher before the movie hits.
