New AC:IV DLC Trailer Focuses On Liberation, Bloodshed

by Jeff Marchiafava on Dec 16, 2013 at 01:30 PM

Ubisoft has released a launch trailer for Assassin's Creed IV's Freedom Cry DLC, which releases this week.

Freedom Cry takes place fifteen years after the events of Black Flag, and stars Adewale, Edward Kenway's second-in-command, who dons an assassin's hood to liberate slaves. The DLC comes complete with new weapons –including the gruesome-looking machete featured in the trailer – and a new ship, the Experto Crede, which loosely translates to "trust the expert." As the trailer below demonstrates, Adewale's battle to bring freedom to slaves will be a bloody one.

Freedom Cry launches on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC December 17, and on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on December 18. The DLC is part of Black Flag's season pass, which will set players back $19.99. For more on Assassin's Creed IV, read our review.

Our Take
Freedom Cry is an easy sell for me; mercilessly taking down slave owners ranks right up there with shooting nazis and zombies as cathartic, guilt-free entertainment. Based on the trailer, Freedom Cry may feature a more moving story than Kenway's money-hunting antics as well – here's hoping Ubisoft doesn't screw it up with too much melodrama.
