Report: Rainbow 6: Patriots Going Through Major Overhaul

by Kyle Hilliard on Dec 14, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Ubisoft North American president Laurent Detoc recently revealed that the long quiet Rainbow 6: Patriots, "Had to be remade."

Earlier this year we learned that the game was moving to next-gen consoles, but apparently the game is undergoing more of a restart, as opposed to a port. “We had a core team. They had a good vision. They got started, and then the game wasn’t working. So [they had] to start again,” Detoc told IGN.

Detoc says that the game has benefited from the next-gen transfer, and there is a chance it may no longer be called Patriots, but he was unwilling to confirm.

We don't know how much the game has changed since its early development, but you can learn more about the game's original ideas by checking out our coverage from when the game graced our cover by clicking the banner below.

Rainbow 6: Patriots isn't the first game to change direction mid-development. Here are eight others.

Our Take
It's pretty bold (and expensive) of Ubisoft to overhaul the game in this way, but this, along with Watch Dogs' delay, shows that the publisher is committed to releasing quality games. I'm curious to see how the final product turns out, and how different it is from the original concepts.
