Weekend Warrior 12/13/2013

by Mike Trinh on Dec 13, 2013 at 01:00 PM

This weekend, the some of the GI editors are still working on finalizing their game-of-the-year lists so they'll be trying out a wide spectrum of games. Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds are among the games that still need to be played. Mike Futter is looking for suggestions on which Pokemon version to get and Andrew Reiner is looking for people to join him in Battlefield 4 multiplayer on Xbox One.

Ben Hanson: I have no idea what I'm going to play this weekend. My top 10 list for 2013 is practically locked in at this point and I'm free from the pressure of the year's required gaming. What did the Genie from Aladdin do when those chains were off his wrists again? I hope to play more Samurai Gunn on Steam, I had a blast playing it earlier this week with Dan. It has a very similar hook to Towerfall except you don't need a silly Ouya to play it. Fans of simple local competitive multiplayer should jump on it with a couple of wired 360 controllers. Have a good weekend!

Jeff Marchiafava: This is our last weekend for testing out game-of-the-year candidates, so I plan to spend more time with Call of Duty: Ghosts and Killzone: Shadow Fall, plus try out NFS Rivals and Battlefield 4. I’ll also be playing my least favorite game: Christmas shopping at the mall.

Mike Futter: This weekend is my final crunch to try all the games I’d like to consider for my personal Top 10 list. That means that I’ll be playing The Room 2, Rayman Legends, Super Meowrio 3D Land (sorry, Joe!), Battlefield 4 (if it’s working), Call of Duty: Ghosts, Need for Speed: Rivals, Ni no Kuni, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, and maybe even Pokemon X or Y (yes, I might try to get into this series one last time). Which Pokemon version should I get, readers? Whew. That’s a lot of games to try...

Andrew Reiner: I'm sailing the seas in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and storming the battlefield in…uh…Battlefield 4. If you're up for some Battlefield 4 multiplayer on Xbox One, look me up on Saturday. I'm Reinak on Xbox Live.

Kyle Hilliard: As is the case with most in the office, I am trying to cram as many of 2013’s best games as I can into the tail end of the year. This weekend I will try my best to spend some time with Call of Duty: Ghosts, but I will probably just end up continuing my The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Hero mode playthrough, and diving into Tearaway.

Tim Turi: I've been resisting the call to play some older games in favor of helping fill out my Top 50 Games of 2013 suggestions. However, I feel the siren call of Castlevania, Resident Evil, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty beckoning me. Will I be able to resist and stick to Call of Duty: Ghosts? Or will I end up taking a nostalgic romp? Oh, also I’m going to a big barcade-type place and plan on playing a ton of Time Crisis.

Katie Seville: This is my last week in Minneapolis, and soon, my last week at Game Informer, so I’ll be moping about that all weekend. I’ll also be packing this evening, which is never fun. I’m hoping to get back into BioShock Infinite today, because I’ll need to ship my TV back home tomorrow. I’ll probably play a little Skyrim as well, and will definitely finish Link to the Past on Saturday or Sunday. I’m saving Link Between Worlds for the week after Christmas, since I’ll be in Idaho where it’s even colder and there’s nothing to do. I picked up a Wii U Wind Waker HD bundle for Christmas, so I’ll be playing that for a while once I’m home. I’ll also be searching for a job again soon, and hopefully doing some freelance writing. Since this is my last weekend here, I hope you don’t mind that I told you about the next few weeks too. This internship has been a wonderful experience, and I’m so glad to be part of the GIO community. Thanks so much for having me.

Mike Trinh: I will stave off the thought of leaving Minneapolis by playing plenty of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and Saints Row IV this weekend. Saints Row IV reminds me of The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction if that game had been much weirder. I still have an overwhelmingly large amount of Christmas shopping to do as well...

Isaac Perry: I got Volgarr the Viking this week and I’m super excited to try it out. If I’m tired of pulling my hair out in frustration, I might also start playing Metro: Last light. Lot of good games for me to play this weekend, and if everything else fails I have plenty of Dave and Buster games I can dominate on Saturday.
