Reader Discussion: Should Nintendo Stick With The Wii U Or Move On?

by Mike Futter on Dec 13, 2013 at 08:35 AM

Before we start, let’s be clear that this isn’t a doom-and-gloom question about Nintendo’s future. The company is in good financial health, and the 3DS continues to put up big numbers.

Unfortunately, the Wii U has faced its share of problems in its first year. Third party support is all but gone, first party titles have been oft delayed with critical darling Super Mario 3D World moving only 215,000 copies in November, missing the NPD Top 10. (Note: The title was available for a portion of the month and could see a bump in December.)

Next year doesn’t have much on the horizon that we know of, with Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze in February and Super Smash Brothers, Mario Kart 8, Yoshi’s New Island (Correction: Yarn Yoshi Wii U, Game Informer apologizes for the error) at an unspecified times. So we want to know what you think Nintendo’s way forward should be.

Should the house of Mario stick with the Wii U (and if so, what will change things)? Should Nintendo accelerate development of a new home console and put the Wii U to bed early? Should Nintendo even stay in the home console business? Let us know what you think in the comments.
