Xbox One Sales Reach 2 Million Mark
Last week, Sony announced that sales of its PlayStation 4 console had surpassed 2 million units, and now it's Microsoft's turn. The Xbox One has reached the milestone, selling an average 111,111 units per day worldwide.
In addition to that figure, Microsoft provided a few additional points of information. Xbox One players have racked up 83 million hours on the console since its Nov. 22 launch, earning more that 39 million achievements worth 595 million gamerscore.
“We continue to be humbled and overwhelmed by the positive response from our fans," says Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of strategy and marketing for Xbox. "We are thrilled to see sales of Xbox One on a record-setting pace, with over 2 million Xbox One consoles in homes around the world. Demand is exceeding supply in our 13 launch markets and Xbox One is sold out at most retailers. We’re also particularly excited to see consumers engaging in a wide range of games and entertainment experiences on the platform, with more than 1 million paid transactions [including digital game and video purchases] on Xbox Live to date.”
Our Take
Microsoft didn't immediately react with a counterpunch when Sony revealed their sales numbers, leading some to assume the worst. As fans of competition, it's good to see that things are this close. It's easy to forget that things are just getting started on this generation, too.
