Twitch Raises $90,000 For Typhoon Haiyan Relief

by Mike Futter on Dec 09, 2013 at 02:47 PM

Twitch has announced that it has donated $90,000 to the relief effort in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan last month. The funds were raised through the sale of limited edition t-shirts on Twitch’s website.

Additionally, during Extra Life 2013, Twitch hosted 7,500 users that raised $1.22 million. This amounts to over one-quarter of all funds raised during this year’s record-breaking 25-hour gaming marathon.

Extra Life raises funds for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the United States and Canada. You can read more about the event on the official website and check out Team Game Informer’s coverage, which was streamed live on Twitch.

Our Take
I will take every opportunity to write feel-good stories like this one. On a daily basis, gamers get together to feed into an echo chamber of negativity. It’s important to remember that we can come together to do great good.
