[Update] Tomb Raider Jumps To PlayStation 4 And Xbox One With Definitive Edition

Update: On tonight's VGX, the details of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition were revealed. The physics have been improved, Lara's head has been completely redesigned, and the vaunted TressFX that power Lara's hair physics will come to consoles.

All of the previously available DLC is included in this package. This includes multiplayer maps and skins.

Original Story:

We can't call them HD remakes anymore, but Tomb Raider might be the harbinger of a new wave of re-releases. After acting coy about an earlier leak, Square Enix has revealed an update to 2013's Tomb Raider reboot by way of an advertisement on the VGX website.

We don't know much about the title, dubbed the "Definitive Edition," but with a name like that, it will likely come complete with all the DLC made available. This includes multiplayer characters, weapons, skins for Lara, and the multiplayer map packs (Shipwrecked, Cliffs and Caves, 1939).

The title will be released on January 28, 2014, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The ad is currently running near the top of the VGX website, but you might need to refresh a couple of times to see it.

You can read up on the VGX nominees in our previous coverage. You can also tune into the show here on Game Informer tonight at 6 PM Eastern / 3 PM Pacific. Given the advertising placement, we might know more tonight about Tomb Raider's Definitive Edition.

Thanks to reader "MightytheUnknown" for the tip.

Our Take
I don't mind the concept of definitive editions (as we've seen with Injustice: Gods Among Us on PlayStation 4), and Tomb Raider is well worth playing again. It's just a shame that the DLC likely included is limited to multiplayer content, a mode that never had a chance of living up to the promise of the single-player experience.
