Final Fantasy VIII Available Now On Steam

by Mike Futter on Dec 05, 2013 at 06:51 AM

Earlier this year, Square Enix re-released Final Fantasy VII on PC. Now, the second PlayStation 1 entry in the series is getting its due on Steam.

Final Fantasy VIII was first released in 1999 and has sold over 8.5 million copies since its release. The new version has a magic booster to add spells to your inventory, Steam cloud support, and achievements.

It also includes the Chocobo World area that was not available in the original Western releases. Square Enix has priced the game at $11.99, and it's available on Steam and other distribution services.

Our Take
The biggest improvement that the Steam release brings is the magic booster. The magic draw mechanic ruined my enjoyment of Final Fantasy VIII when I played it on the original PlayStation. Hopefully those trying this title for the first time have a better experience thanks to this tweak.
