Need For Speed: Rivals Network Offers Profile Management, Second Screen Functions

by Mike Futter on Dec 03, 2013 at 08:12 AM

Second screen apps are becoming more prevalent, with no sign of slowing down any time soon. Need for Speed: Rivals is the latest title to get one of the companions.

The Need for Speed Network app serves a number of functions. It can be used to manage stats and queue up events for later play while away from your console.

It can also be used in Overwatch mode to interact directly with the game. Here, you can help or hinder your friends and rivals by repairing their vehicles or laying down obstacles. When playing solo, the app can be used as a map and navigator.

You can download the Need for Speed Network app now on iOS. If you previously used the Need for Speed: Most Wanted companion app, you won't need to download anything new. Unfortunately, this means that Most Wanted's second screen functions are now disabled.

Our Take
I like the idea of having a second-screen app as a map that doesn't require any interaction. Juggling a controller and a phone or tablet is cumbersome. It seems like the Need for Speed Network app is a full-featured experience that enhances the game during play and away from home. I'm eager  to get it loaded up and test it for myself.
