Microsoft Launches Xbox Video Website

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 27, 2013 at 10:28 AM

Microsoft's video rental service is now available via browser, but right now only SD playback is supported.

You can check out the site by heading to video.xbox.com. The service is available as an application for Windows 8, as well as Xbox One. Those are the platforms where you can use Xbox Video to watch HD movies and television.

Having access to the store, which shares a universal login with your Xbox account, gives you access to the library of more than 300,000 movies and TV shows on any browser, Mac or PC. Microsoft says that an Xbox video app will be available soon for Windows Phones, as well.

Our Take
It's a good thing that more access is being lent to the library of films and television available on Xbox. I'm a little surprised that HD playback isn't available on a browser. It could be a difficult to bypass technical limitation, but it could also be Microsoft trying to encourage users to watch their movies on Xbox One, or a Windows 8 machine.
