Double Fine Reacquires Distribution Rights For Costume Quest And Stacking

by Mike Futter on Nov 26, 2013 at 05:58 AM

Earlier this year, we chatted with Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. During our conversation, he mentioned that he’d like to bring the distribution rights for the studio’s titles back home following the collapse of THQ.

In an announcement today, Nordic Games (the new owner of those rights following the second THQ asset auction) and Double Fine announced Double Fine in control again. Psychonauts, Costume Quest, and Stacking will be coming to retail on PC and Mac in Europe and North America this year in partnership with Nordic Games.

For more on Nordic Games, check out our interview following the THQ auction and a follow-up conversation at Gamescom. You can also read more about the THQ auction itself.

Our Take
This is great news for Double Fine and Nordic Games. The deal provides Double Fine with the control it wants and the resources (via a partnership) to get the titles into retail channels. It also gives a bit more hope to a return to each of these properties (especially, Costume Quest, please).
