The lights are on
Before we get started, we want to be clear that we are not endorsing this brute force method of “repairing” an Xbox One with a broken disc drive. Your best bet is to contact Microsoft and get a replacement console. This is shared as a point of curiosity only.
With that out of the way, YouTube user “dave d” has taken the advice of some on the Xbox forums to fix his Xbox One. The disc drive was making a terrible grinding and clicking noise (something we’ve heard about from a number of users).
The theory is that there is a misaligned gear. The solution to fixing it? A few hard whacks to the underside of the Xbox One to knock the gear into position. I don’t know what’s more surprising, that this didn’t utterly destroy the console or that it actually got his disc drive working.
Our TakeBy taking this action with your console, you assume all risk. In dave d’s case, it was a solution to a broken disc drive. It could just as easily result in a broken console if you’re too rough. Again, please contact Microsoft for support.
