The lights are on
The Monster Hunter series has spawned a number of titles that emulate the hunt, kill, craft game loop. Comcept’s Soul Sacrifice is in the same vein, but takes a much darker approach, tempting players to betray their friends and give up their humanity. The Vita title arrives in the Instant Game Collection today.
Players will find themselves trapped in a cage waiting to be executed by an evil sorcerer. With the help of a fleshy, sentient book, you’ll go back in time and hone your skills. Each enemy you defeat can be saved or sacrificed to increase your health or magic.
Items harvested contain the essence of different weapons and spells. It’s a deep system, with a complex story. You can read our review of the title and download it tomorrow when the PlayStation store updates.

Our TakeI had a hard time getting into Monster Hunter games (not for lack of trying). Soul Sacrifice clicked with me, as elements reminded me of one of my favorite original Xbox games, Phantom Dust. Missions play out quickly, bosses are large and grotesque, and the powers are varied. If you’ve got a Vita and PlayStation Plus, this is a good week for you.
