Report: Deadly Premonition Director Casually Mentions Work On Sequel

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 24, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Deadly Premonition director, Hidetaka "SWERY" Suehiro, offered one of the most concrete teases for a sequel to his cult classic in a recent interview.

It's not the first time Suehiro has teased continuing work on Deadly Premonition, but in a recent interview with GamingBolt, he flat out stated that he is or at least was working on a sequel. When asked about what he began working on after Deadly Premonition released in 2010 Suehiro said, "After producing Deadly Premonition, I started work on production of the Lord of Arcana series right away, and during that time I was already working on the planning and pre-production of D4." He continued by saying, "At the same time I was also working on the sequel to Deadly Premonition and the framework for the Director’s Cut."

Suehiro is fully focused on D4 at the moment, which he is quick to clarify is not a sequel Deadly Premonition. It's unclear exactly how much work or progress has been made on a sequel to Deadly Premonition. It may just be conceptual work, as opposed to a greenlit game with funding from a publisher.

For more on D4, check out some reasons to get excited about the game, as well as our impressions from the game from when the game was first shown at E3. To read our review of the recent Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut, head here.

Our Take
I count myself among the fans of Deadly Premonition and its absurdity, and I would love to see a sequel from Suehiro. I am doubtful that much real work has been done, especially with D4 on the way, but I am glad he is interested in and excited about making a Deadly Premonition 2.
