Crimson Dragon Getting Balancing And Difficulty Tweaks

by Mike Futter on Nov 21, 2013 at 03:27 AM

Panzer Dragoon spiritual successor Crimson Dragon will be seeing a pre-launch update to address balancing and difficulty concerns. Director Yukio Futatsugi suggests that the title is designed to be challenging, but he wants to find the “sweet spot.”

To that end, Crimson Dragon will see a few tweaks immediately, with more possible via the Xbox One cloud. Dragons will get more experience from each battle, including if it results in failure. Item costs have been decreased, and the presence of in-game currency (jewels) has been increased. Finally, the casual and classic difficulty levels have been tuned down a bit.

Our Take
The item that caught my eye in this post is that balance can be adjusted on the fly with the Xbox One cloud. When paired with real-money transactions for items, things get dicey. Suddenly, that rare item you spent money to get from blind-buy packs might not be quite as useful. This is the same problem that Blizzard ran into with the real money auction house and constant tuning of the drop rates. It’s a bumpy road, and one that feels wrong in a game that isn’t free-to-play.
