EA And DICE Plan To Patch Battlefield 4 On PlayStation 4 Next Week

EA has had its share of problems on the PlayStation 4. Last week, the publisher blamed Sony and the critical 1.5 firmware update for the trouble before retracting that accusation. We ran into some problems with Battlefield 4, including crashes and an inability to get into the 64-player conquest mode. A fix is coming, but it’s going to be a few days.

“We are aware of the frequent crashes in Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4,” an official post on the Battlefield blog reads. “We are hard at work identifying these issues and are hoping to get a game update out early next week. Stay tuned for more details as we can confirm them, and thanks for your patience!”

We reached out to EA to see if there was any more information available on the PlayStation 4 patch. "DICE is working on it," we were told by an EA representative.

EA and DICE have also assured that game updates are coming for Xbox 360. A PC patch was deployed on November 14 that was designed to alleviate the crashing and freezing issues that have plagued the title on that platform.

Our Take
Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4 was touted as the first title in the series to support 64 players in a single match. As of now, we’ve had problems getting that to prove out on the retail release. I suffered numerous crashes to the PlayStation menu with an error code (CE-34878-0) and empty server listings. I’m aware that some people have gotten some modes to work, but my personal experience (which should not be considered reflective of everyone’s own encounters) is that the game is an incomplete product in its current state. If you haven’t picked it up yet, I’d recommend waiting until the all-clear is sounded.
