Sony Offers Troubleshooting Tips For PS4s With Pulsing Blue Light Errors
Some new PlayStation 4 owners are reporting errors with their consoles. The system refuses to output a video signal to the television and the console pulses with blue light. Sony has yet to offer an official statement about the error, but it has offered some troubleshooting tips on its official message boards.
There aren't any exceptionally surprising tips. Sony suggests updating the firmware of your television, unplugging the system for a hard reset, checking the connectivity of the hard drive, or using the system's safe mode to re-initialize the console. You can also use the system's safe mode to update your PlayStation 4 without having to sign into the PlayStation Network, which might help. You can learn more about how to do that here.
It's unclear exactly how many consoles are affected by the error. If none of the troubleshooting tips above work, the error is apparently covered by the system's warranty. The problem is finding a console to switch it our with from a retailer, or waiting for Sony to ship you a new one.

Our Take
Unfortunately, it's unavoidable that brand new, widely purchased technology won't run into a few errors for some early adopters. Knowing that, however, doesn't make it any less disappointing when it happens to you. The real question is, what will the Internet nickname this error? I've seen "blue light of death," which I suppose could be shorted to BLOD, but I'm curious if that will be what sticks. Do you have a better suggestion?
