Reader Discussion: Where Did You Earn Your FPS Skills?

by Isaac Perry on Nov 11, 2013 at 12:20 PM

No one was born knowing how to play, let alone win, a first-person shooter. Navigating, aiming, and ultimately succeeding in multiplayer takes time to learn. We’re reminded of this whenever we convince a friend to try a shooter for the first time. So where did you earn your FPS stripes?

With Killzone: Shadow Fall, Battlefield 4, and Call of Duty: Ghosts launching within a week of each other, FPS fans have a lot on their plates.

For over a year, a friend and I played hundreds of Red Faction 2 matches  against bots. We started with 4 v 4, slowly increasing the challenge until we were dominating every round 2 v 6 on the hardest difficulty. After that things only got smoother.

Let us know which game sharpened your first-person shooter skills. Did you pick them up from playing single player, multiplayer, or both? Note: “I have always been good,” is not a sufficient answer.
