Wii U Sales See Huge Jump In Japan Last Week

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 10, 2013 at 04:32 AM

Thanks to new bundles and the release of Wii Party U, The Wii U outsold every console but the 3DS XL last week in Japan.

The Wii U has struggled to find an audience since its launch, but things are looking up in Japan at least. The Wii U sold 38,802 units compared to the previous week's measly 2,598 units, a 1,500% increase. Many are attributing the increase to impressive Wii Party U sales, which debuted as the sixth best selling game last week behind games like Pokémon X & Y.

Our Take
I am very happy that the Wii U was able to claim this small victory in Japan. I am still a huge fan of the Wii U. It's off-screen play options have proven invaluable when I want to play something like Assassin's Creed or Wind Waker HD, but don't want to rob the TV from everyone in my household. I am surprised to see Wii Party U as the catalyst for sales boost, though. I didn't realize that game had such a large audience.
