The lights are on
Valve has quietly registered the domain SteamStatic.com. It's unknown what the site will be, but Valve owns and presumably has plans for it.
The assumption is that it ties into the recently announced Steam Machine and Steam Controller, but there is really no way to know. It could be entirely disconnected.
According to Fusible, which discovered the domain registry, the domain's whois records show Valve Corporation as the owners, and it was recently moved into ValveSoftware.com's domain servers.
Our TakeWe've been burned before with registrations related to Valve and Half-Life 3, but this seems much more legitimate. The fact that it doesn't immediately appear to confirm the existence of a new Half-Life game also lends much more creditability.
I'm not really sure what the site could eventually become. The word static doesn't really lend any clues as to what it will be. It might just end up being a teaser site for a larger announcement. We'll be keeping an eye on it in the coming weeks.
