Blizzard Working On Bringing Warcraft & Warcraft II To Modern PCs

Warcraft and Warcraft II released in 1994 and 1995, which means if you've still got the original discs, there is a good chance they won't run on your current PC. Blizzard is working to fix that.

In a question and answer session during Blizzcon, Blizzard production director J. Allen Brack said that a small team is currently working on making the games compatible with modern PCs. A fan asked about the possibility of getting to replay those games and Brack replied, "So, we actually have a guy on our team – actually several guys on our team – who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion."

There is no release date in place for when we can expect to see those games re-emerge, but but we can now res assured that Blizzard is on the case.

Our Take
It sounds like what is being worked on here are straight ports of the original games, updated for compatibility. In this age of HD updates, it would be nice to see both games receive total remakes. Blizzard doesn't mind pushing out sequels to its games, but remakes just don't really seem like its style, so I'm doubtful that we'll see that happen anytime soon. The terms, "in some form or fashion," though, do leave a lot to the imagination.
