Wargaming Announces World of Tanks Open Beta Weekend On Xbox Live

by Matt Helgeson on Nov 07, 2013 at 02:34 PM

This weekend, you can get into Wargaming's World of Tanks: Xbox 360 Edition without registering. However, act now because it will be your last chance to join the beta.

The open beta weekend started today and will run through 11:59 PST on Sunday. During this weekend, you don't have to register, go to the Xbox Live Marketplace and download the World of Tanks client. Just to stress: the beta is open this weekend, but after this weekend is over all beta registration will be closed.

You'll also get some freebies for participating. All players who play in the beta will receive a premium USA T14 tier III heavy tank when the game releases on a yet-unannounced date. If you play in five battles on Saturday, November 9th, you'll also nab a USA Ram II tier V medium tank at launch. Finally, from 2 p.m. on Saturday through 2 a.m. on Monday, November 11th, you'll earn double XP.

Our Take:
Despite all the talk about the next-generation consoles, I think that World of Tanks for 360 is actually one of the more intriguing projects on the horizon from an industry perspective. It's been a blockbuster in the PC, free-to-play space, and this foray into the console market could be a bellwether for the F2P model on consoles. It will be interesting to see how well it does with the 360 audience.
