Call Of Duty: Ghosts Scene Borrows Animations And Framing From Modern Warfare 2 Ending

by Mike Futter on Nov 06, 2013 at 03:06 AM

With Call of Duty: Ghosts now in players’ hands, people are starting to dissect the campaign and the multiplayer modes. One astute gamer noticed that there is a strikingly familiar scene in Activision’s latest.

The video was captured by YouTube user “satantribal.” You can see for yourself below.

We wanted to make sure that the side-by-side was reflective of the two scenes, and it didn’t take us long to find two Let’s Play videos that fit the bill. The first is the end of Modern Warfare 2 posted by YouTube user “Robbaz.” Scroll ahead to 4:45 for the relevant clip.

Now here’s the scene that takes place at the end of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ first level. This was posted by YouTube user “DSR07Gaming.” Jump ahead to 11:45.

We’ve reached out to Activision for comment on this. For more on Call of Duty: Ghosts, which has sold $1 billion to retail stores, check out our review.

Our Take
It’s hard to understand why Infinity Ward would reuse animations and framing from Modern Warfare 2, as someone was bound to notice. It could be symbolic or an intentional nod to long-time fans of the series. It could also be a case of developers taking shortcuts. The similarities are clearly more than a coincidence, but until we hear back from Activision, that’s as much as we can state with certainty.
