Twitch has announced a partnership with Minecraft developer Mojang to integrate Twitch streaming capabilities right into the PC and Mac version of the game.

Minecraft has proven to be an incredibly popular game on Twitch, consistently appearing in the service's top 20 most popular games since 2011.

It's unclear exactly how or when Twitch streaming will be integrated into Minecraft, but it will be "soon," and it will allow players to begin streaming at the "push of a button".

Our Take
Streaming is becoming more and more popular, but I am curious if its popularity will wain somewhat as it becomes easier and easier to stream gameplay. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will offer integrated Twitch capabilities, and it will soon become easy for anyone with a copy of Minecraft on PC or Mac to start showcasing their gaming online. With everyone streaming, who will be left to watch?

Twitch Announces Minecraft Partnership at MINECON 2013

PC and MAC users of Mojang’s Minecraft will soon be able to broadcast their games to Twitch at the click of button

SAN FRANCISCO- November 2, 2013- Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, today announced at the sold out MineCon convention a partnership with Mojang to bring broadcasting functionality to Minecraft. The integration of Twitch into the PC and MAC versions of the top selling game enables gamers to easily broadcast directly to their Twitch channels. The Twitch functionality will be live soon.

Developed and published by Mojang, Minecraft launched on May 17, 2009. Since then, it has become the top selling PC sandbox adventure game with more than 13 million units in sales on PC with more than 33 million units in sales across all platforms. It has also been the recipient of several prestigious awards including five Game Developers Choice Awards at the 2011 Game Developers Conference. As a result, MINECON 2013, Mojang’s annual Minecraft convention, has sold out with more than 7,500 attendees eager to see what is next for one of the most creative games of all time and to meet the team responsible for it.

The game’s popularity has also soared on Twitch with an unwavering presence on the site’s Top 20 Games viewed each month. This has been the case since Twitch launched in 2011.

“Minecraft has struck a very powerful chord with the Twitch community,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP of Marketing, Twitch. “Its constantly escalating popularity illustrates that people love to watch video games outside of the headline grabbing eSports titles. Expect a watershed moment for both players and spectators once the ability to easily broadcast gameplay directly to Twitch goes live.”
