Report: Hackers Uncover Hidden Pokémon In X & Y

by Kyle Hilliard on Nov 02, 2013 at 01:58 PM

Hackers have been hard at work on Pokémon X & Y trying to uncover its secrets, and some new creatures have appeared online.

According to a report from Kotaku, new Pokémon, new types of previous Pokémon, and new Mega Evolutions have all surfaced as a result of the efforts from hackers. If you would like to avoid and and all spoilers, read no further.

The names of the brand new Pokémon are Diancie, Volcanion and Hoopa, and you can see what they look like by heading here. The assumption is that these Pokémon are event monsters, unlocked on certain occasions, or by players taking their 3DS to certain unannounced locations.

According to Joystiq, Smealum, who recently showed off a homebrew Portal DS game, is taking credit for discovering the Pokémon, but has no plans to release the hack, or offer any kind of tutorial on how he accessed them.

Our Take
Pokémon has a very enthusiastic fanbase that voraciously seeks out any information it can get its hands on about the games. These sort of discoveries and leaks are nearly inevitable when fans are so eager to see what's hiding under the game's code that they will hack it to see what's there. It's still a possibility that these are all part of an elaborate hoax, but I find that unlikely considering the consistent visual style of the newly Pokémon.
