The lights are on
Happy Halloween, everyone. Whether you are planning on taking the little ones out to trick-or-treat or man the door for the costumed kiddies, once the porch lights go out it’s time to settle in for some gaming. Are you a fan of horror games, or do you like to keep your heart beating at more sustainable levels?
More importantly, how do you like to play these terrifying titles? Do you keep all the lights on, or do you prefer to dial up the immersion with the lights off, shades closed, and headphones on?
Let us know in the comments. We’ll be choosing some of our favorite answers to highlight in this afternoon’s second Reader Discussion.

Well there are definitely some variations of the horror genre. I prefer games like dead space because I get more enjoyment out of jump scares than I do something like amnesia.
Lately I haven't been dipping into much horror. I loved Silent Hill 1 and 2, Resident Evil 1-5, and I am looking forward to Evil Within. I like to play with the lights on (hurts my eyes watching TV in the dark) so I don't get the total immersion that you are referring to.
First time playing Doom 3 all lights off on my PC headphones on was one of the funnest, scariest gaming experiences of my life. Since then games like Dead Space, Amnesia, Silent Hill Series have all had a special place in my gaming collection, and always always with the lights off and volumne loud!
hell yeah i play horror games. one of the best types of games imo
I play them occasionally, but when I do play it's always in the dark with a good pair of headphones on, really gets you in the zone.
If by play you mean curl up into a ball and cry, then yes.
I love horror games, they are my favorite genre by far. I always try to play in the dark and I make sure that I walk down a dark hallway to my darkend bedroom for maximum nightmare generation. Games like Dead Space and Resident Evil 5, action horror titles, are fun in that they have horror elements added to carefully timed action. But the games that make me fear what could be waiting around the next dark corner or in the back of my subconscious, those are the games that I will relish like a cask of Amontillado enjoyed at the house of Usher in Arkham Asylum near port Innsmouth in the shade of the Halloween Tree.
I love playing horror games! My history with them has been a little stale lately but I remember playing Doom 3 for the first time with all of the lights off and after the first 30 minutes, I had to take a break for a week! One of my favorite memories was playing F.E.A.R. with my friends (again with all the lights out) and while most of us were immersed, one of them jumped from behind the couch and scared the bejeebus out of us! The most recent that I'm a fan of is Dead Space. Props to EA Redwood Shores for creating such an experience!
I love horror games, i wish i had a good PC so i can play the great ones they have there. But i am looking forward to all of the horror games coming to PS4. I'm ready for some late night headset sessions with mr pibb.
Yes loved fear 1 and 2 alan wake was great best horror story in a game
Hmmm, I do love horror games. They're the main kind I want to create one day. I just find it difficult to be scared anymore. I've played so many of the greats such as Silent Hill 2 & 3 and the original Dead Space that I find my standards pretty high. However, I wait until it gets dark outside, turn all the lights out and crank the surround sound. Mmm, I miss playing video games. =/
I played several sorts of horror games, I played survial-horror, action horror.
Games like: Amnesia: The Dark Descent & Machine for Pigs & Dead Island
Amnesia is the best in the meaning of horror, and Dead Island in the meanings of Hack and Slash and action
I really liked the custom stories in Amnesia TDD and the main story of Amnesia: AMFP is really great! (for as far as I played it)
But to answer the question: Yes, I play horror games
