PlayStation Vita Remote Play Best Within Same Wi-Fi Network As PS4
As part of its enormous PlayStation 4 FAQ, Sony has revealed more about how the PlayStation Vita remote streaming feature works. As expected, you’re going to want to be as close as possible for optimal performance.
“We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used within the same Wi-Fi network where PS4 is connected,” the FAQ states. “Remote Play may or may not work over a wide area network. For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable Wi-Fi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4.”
Sony isn’t saying that it’s impossible to have a good experience outside the home, but it probably won’t be as simple as this “Day with PlayStation” video makes it seem (check the 1:25 minute mark).

Our Take
Common sense dictates that you need to have a strong Wi-Fi connection for both the Vita and the PlayStation 4, but I think many people expected it to work as seamlessly and fluidly as it does in the video above. I would be content for stable connection in my house so I can continue playing in bed or on the other side of the house. I currently can’t do that with my Vita and PS3, nor can I do it with my Wii U.
